As the IT profession is very broad, there are many different options to consider when choosing a career in IT.

The IT Trainer job description:

  • Creates and teaches courses on information systems, computing and technology. These range from general off-the-shelf software packages to specific bespoke company software.
  • Works with more technical staff such as web developers and programmers. As the technology industry grows and technologies change frequency, there is need for people working in IT to be kept up to date with all IT advancements.
  • Ensures that technology training is offered appropriately to all levels of staff enabling them to use the new products and the firm’s technology systems effectively.
  • Writes appropriate documentation and course notes for all courses offered.
  • Produces training materials and teaches the system’s end users how to use the software.

Skills an IT Trainer may have are:

  • Training accreditations from organisations such as Microsoft, Novell, Adobe, Lotus and Itrain.
  • Service focused.
  • Strong evidence of logical thought.
  • Willingness to take the initiative and the ability to see the bigger picture.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
