Software Engineer: Also known as Programmer, Designer, Developer

The Software Engineer job description:

  • Creates and produces software operating or applications systems.
  • Uses computer languages to write codes that instructs the computer to carry out different tasks
  • Adapts existing programs - formulates operating system advancements and performs improvements.
  • Finds and fixes faults in the software.
  • Develops and provides varying degrees of software support.
  • Makes sure applications can be run on the hardware.
  • Creates applications tailored to business needs to run on platforms/hardware.
  • Delivers technical presentations/demonstrations of work


Skills a Software Engineer may have are:

  • Proficiency in programming languages that could include Visual Basic, C++, C#, Java, PL/SQL, COBOL, and PL/I.
  • Understanding of infrastructure architectures.
  • Understanding of networks and communications infrastructure.
  • Understanding of monitoring and management tools.
  • Ability to analyse and think logically.
  • Ability to work in a team and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail.
