Systems Analyst: Also known as Solution Designers, System Engineers
The Systems Analyst job description:
- Enhances systems to perform new functions.
- Analyses business tasks, plans and develops the hardware systems and software that allow a computer to complete these tasks.
- Evaluates the systems, hardware and software to capitalise on the company’s information technology.
- Works to develop more efficient or faster procedures. Modifies systems when changes are made in the task the computer has to complete.
- Evaluates the feasibility of a plan when implementing a new computer system to make sure the plan will be successful before they recommend it to management.
Skills a Systems Analyst may have are:
- Knowledge of web servers (Apache, Microsoft Internent Information Server), networks operating systems (Microsoft Windows, Novell Netware, Red Hat Linux, Sun Solaris, IBM), application servers (Microsoft Windows Advanced Server, IBM WebSphere, BEA WebLogic, Lotus Domino) and Groupware (Microsoft Exchange Server, Lotus Notes).
- Knowledge management - Microsoft SharePoint Team Services, Lotus SameTime, Lotus Domino.Doc, eRoom, Documentum 4I.
- Knowledge of eCommerce - Microsoft Site Server, Microsoft Commerce Server, Microsoft BizTalk Server, IBM WebSphere, IBM MQSeries, Vitria, BEA WebLogic, Open Market Transact, SAP mySAP.
- Knowledge of enterprise resource planning (ERP) / Enterprise Resource Management (ERM) - SAP, PeopleSoft, Oracle Applications.
