As the IT profession is very broad, there are many different options to consider when choosing a career in IT.

The IT Technical Support job description:

  • Assists users to sort out software, hardware or other technical problems – usually second and third line support.
  • Provides operations teams with the services and tools to help manage production environments and improve operational productivity for important business-critical applications.
  • Demonstrates strong problem solving skills including effective investigative techniques.
  • Exhibits exceptional communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Accepts responsibility for the ownership of a support task and sees it through to resolution


Skills IT Technical Support may have are:

  • Experience and accreditation with the relevant hardware that the company uses.
  • Confidence and ability to work well within a stressful environment.
  • A good team worker; shares knowledge, uses initiative and is self motivated.
  • Ability to pick up new skills and techniques.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experienced technical staff may use the combination of their product knowledge and customer service skills to move into technical sales.
