Thanks to everyone who came along to the 'Bias Awareness: Improving Business Performance Through Cultural Transformation' event which we co-hosted with Intellect and Beyond on Tuesday 13th July 2010.

The three speakers for the evening were Sarah Churchman - Director of Diversity at PricewaterhouseCoopers, Dr Peter Jones - Chartered Psychologist and Salma Shah -  Director of Beyond.

Pete's presentation highlighted how we can measure and reduce unconscious bias, covering the nature of unconscious bias and the regulation, reduction and control of prejudice. Pete's slides can be found here.

Sarah put forward the business case and business issue concerning unconscious bias and how diversity works as a strategic enabler, stating: “Diversity enhances our perspective, our point of view, and our ability to provide our clients with the highest level of distinctive service.” Sarah's presentation slides can be found here

Salma's presentation addressed the issue of whether gender bias is impacting business performance, and whether this is why there are challenges in attracting, retaining and developing top female talent. She also suggested ways of removing the inherent bias, including training employees on the topic and using follow up programmes that lead to action. Salma's presentation slides can be found here. This presentations were followed by networking over cheese and wine.
