What did the session cover?
This session provided an overview of all you need to know as employers to comply with the ever changing immigration rules and minimise the risk of discrimination claims.
Michelle Chance, Partner in Employment, and Helen Smith, Solicitor in Immigration, lead the session and guided attendees through the following:
A-Z of recruitment steps from drafting job description and advert to offer letter and contract;
The use of social networking sites to vet job applicants;
Key changes under the Equality Act such as positive action and ban on pre-employment health questionnaires;
The considerations and immigration options available when looking to recruit a non-UK national;
Some practical pointers on how to minimise the risk of successful discrimination claims being brought against employers who are trying to comply with their legal obligations to prevent illegal working when recruiting overseas nationals; and
The Points Based System – in particular a look at how the permanent immigration limits are operating in practice since their introduction in April 2011 and how they affect employers during recruitment
