Capability Dismissals and Effective Performance Management
Employment Law Advice Session with Kervin & Barnes
Date: Tuesday 25th May 2010, 5.30pm to 7pm
The perceived complexity of the procedures involved in a “capability dismissal” invariably lead employers to look to more straight forward dismissal options such as conduct and redundancy. Not only is this inherently risky, it removes a very effective management tool. Performance review procedures should form an essential and integral part of general
performance management
.
This session covered issues around performance management including:
Informal and formal processes
Target setting
The obligation to assist the employee
Timescales
Alternatives to dismissal
The performance standards that are acceptable/unacceptable
Effective performance management policies.
