CARE New Media Challenge
Thursday 17th May 2012
CARE New Media Challenge
Women in Technology
is supporting the
CARE New Media Challenge
, which will see digital professionals challenging themselves and poverty by supporting poverty relief charity CARE International.
The Challenge
On Saturday 3rd September, teams will go head- to-head to complete a marathon distance multi-activity course in Cannock Chase, Staffordshire. This includes biking forest tracks, canoeing on a river and completing a spectacular trail challenge. There will be with a few mystery challenges to solve along the way
and a bonus stage for the super fit and ultra-competitive! The challenge will followed by a well–deserved meal and party.
With teams from a variety of digital agencies and IT departments already signed up the competition is hotting up. Neil
Munro, CARE’s Head of Challenge says,
“It’s a great way to get out of the office and active
for a worthwhile cause, whilst networking with peers from the industry. It will test teams’ stamina and fitness, as well as appealing to their team spirit, not to mention their sense of fun.”
The Cause
Every drop of sweat will be worthwhile as funds raised will support aid and development agency CARE International. The charity is hoping to top funds raised from the previous two years’ challenges, by raising more than £35,000 to support some of the world’s poorest people.

Drought and famine in the Horn of Africa
CARE is currently working in the Horn of Africa, where almost 10 million people in Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia are sev erely affected by drought. This is the most severe food crisis in the world today. CARE is providing safe drinking water, hygiene and sanitation, nutrition and livelihood protection as well as assistance with livestock, helping families to cope with current and future challenges. This is alongside their long-term work in the area to reduce people’s vulnerability.
