Did you know that over one million tonnes of waste from IT equipment is dumped in landfill in the UK every year, when it could be donated to an organisation such as Computer Aid International? Based in north London, Computer Aid is a UK charity and the world's largest provider of refurbished PCs to the not-for-profit sector in the developing world. Their aim is simple: to bridge the digital divide.

To date, Computer Aid has supplied over 150,000 fully refurbished PCs to where they are most needed in schools and not-for-profit organisations in over 100 countries worldwide. They are currently able to reuse any Pentium 4 or equivalent base units, flatscreen and large backed CRT monitors, keyboards, mice and cables. Anything that cannot be reused will be recycled, to the highest environmental standards with 0% going to landfill.

Each reused PC will provide over 6,000 hours of access. This is enough time to train 60 children to a vocational level of IT literacy, opening a world of education and employment opportunities.

Computer Aid aim to make donating your old IT equipment as easy as possibly, offering a UK wide collection service, data wiping to U.S military standards and full WEEE compliance. Plus, through their asset tracking system you can find out which community your donation is helping to support.
