Effective absence management
Employment Law Advice Session with Kervin & Barnes
Date: Wednesday 29th September 2010
An interactive workshop, designed to take you through a real case scenario, at each stage evaluating actions to be taken and the potential ramifications of getting it wrong. The workshop will be followed by a short group discussion facilitated by a senior employment lawyer with over 15 years’ experience.
The session will guided attendees on how to manage absence lawfully and also consider answers to questions like:
What if the employee doesn’t answer our letters?
What if they’re caring for a sick or dying relative?
A colleague says they’re not really sick – how do I handle that?
Does the Disability Discrimination Act allow me to dismiss someone with a long-term illness?
What does the ACAS Code of Practice require me to do?
Do I have to pay if an employee goes off during a disciplinary investigation? What do I do about progressing the matter while they’re off?
Are there any differences in the treatment of short- and long-term absences?
How do I explain their absence to the team if the employee doesn’t want me to talk about their condition?
Feedback from attendees:
"Very good, experienced and knowledgeable [speaker]."
"Excellent session"
"Hilary was excellent, her pace was excellent. Very enjoyable session".
This session was presented by Hilary Norris from Kervin & Barnes:
