Girl Geek Residential Workshops 2010 - Negotiation
Girl Geek Scotland is hosting a series of workshops to complement our
Speaker Series 2010
on ‘Creativity, Computing and Entrepreneurialism’. The workshops, which are aimed at women who are thinking about starting, or have recently started, a Scottish business, will work around themes that will target what we believe are existing weaknesses in female business culture, namely: Negotiation, Funding Strategies, and Creativity in Business.
These workshops are aimed at women with an interest in technology- your background is less important than your enthusiasm and desire to follow a tech/creative project through. A diverse range of people is expected to attend with backgrounds in design, art, computer science, engineering, nursing, photography- the list is endless. You will be required to bring a project with you- at the end of each workshop you should have developed a workable strategy that will allow you to complete this project using new skills and resources gained during the weekend.
Negotiation
November 19th -21st 2010
The comparatively low wage range of women to men in similar roles indicates that negotiation is a particular weakness in female culture. This workshop is intended to give women the skills and practice needed to help them negotiate deals for resources of all kinds in business.
The skill of negotiation is rarely taught in the UK and is not embedded in our culture- we rarely barter for goods in shops and markets, for example. This is an essential skill for entrepreneurs as they consider the value of their business and seek equity deals. In male-dominated cultures women often feel intimidated and lack self-confidence in supporting their positions. This workshop will teach participants the gender-based differences in negotiating and will teach them powerful negotiation and influencing techniques, particularly in the context of their business and its growth.
By the end of the workshop, you should…
Be able to prepare, approach and undertake challenging negotiations with various stakeholders
Gain hands-on experience of Integrative Bargaining negotiation techniques, which are in tune with female values of authenticity and collaboration
Develop an appreciation that your business is an entity worthy of growth, and how negotiating for additional funding can unlock significant growth potential
Develop an understanding of your own negotiation style
Engender confidence in approaching negotiations through a detailed step by step approach to its preparation and implementation
Correlate your business venture with a worthy investment, identifying ways to leverage its assets and engage in a real-life investment negotiation
