Opportunities in the Nuclear Industry for Women in SET
Free One-day Workshop
Tuesday 23 March 2010 – 10.00-16.00
Imperial College, Silwood Park, Ascot
There is a shortage of engineers and scientists within the nuclear industry. The growth in nuclear power generation and the need to safely decommission some existing sites will provide exciting job opportunities for jobseekers with all types of engineering, environmental and science, including earth science, backgrounds in the areas of new build, decommissioning and waste management. EMPower is therefore hosting a one-day FREE workshop in association with the UKRC South East Hub to tell you about what employers are looking for and the job opportunities available.
EMPower is supported by government agencies, energy companies and engineering consultancies including the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Health & Safety Executive, Environment Agency, British Energy, AWE, Sellafield, MagnoxNorth, the National Nuclear Laboratory and Amec. These, and other employers, are keen to encourage more women into this field and provide placement and job opportunities for SET returners and recent graduates. At this workshop you will hear from employers in the industry and have an opportunity to network with organisations and other women in SET. You will also have the opportunity to visit an on-site nuclear reactor.
All those registered will need security clearance to attend the event on this site. Places are limited so if you would like to attend, please email
ann.clark@reading.ac.uk
as soon as possible and by Friday 29th January at the latest to reserve a place and to allow adequate time for the necessary security clearance.
For women who are not working or are on a low income, we may be able to pay travel expenses. Please contact Ann at the email address above.
