PhDs: How to add value to your business 2010

Date: Tuesday 28th September 2010
Time: 9am to 1.30pm
Location: The Wellcome Institute, Euston Road, London.
Cost: Free

There is an increasing emphasis on the "knowledge economy" and the importance of high-level skills in helping the UK out of recession. The economic importance of research activity has been frequently highlighted by both government and industry.

Given that there are currently over 90,000 people working towards a doctorate in the UK and that over half of these will not continue into academia, this interactive seminar will look at how postgraduates can support UK plc.

We have great pleasure in inviting to you to a seminar hosted jointly by Vitae and CIHE and supported by AGCAS entitled ‘PhDs: How to add value to your business’.

The seminar will be held from 9am to 1.30pm (including lunch) on September 28th at the Wellcome Institute on Euston Road in London.

The session will include practical labour market information as well as inputs from some key employers showcasing examples of innovative ways of working with PhDs. In addition, universities will be demonstrating how they have worked with employers to streamline and simplify recruitment processes and we will feature examples of internship and work experience schemes.

Speakers include:
Dr Janet Metcalfe
 Chair and Head, Vitae
Dr David Docherty
 Chief Executive, CIHE
Simon Bradley Vice President, EADS
Tessa Payne
Head of Graduate School, Nottingham University
Elizabeth Wilkinson
Head of Postgraduate Career Development, Manchester University
