The IT, telecoms and electronics trade association Intellect UK has elected a young female entrepreneur to its board.

At 30, Kate Craig-Wood is the youngest woman ever to join the organisation's board and brings considerable experience in the UK's IT industry to the table.

She is the co-founder and currently the Managing Director of web hosting company Memset and has previously been employed in senior IT roles for Alphameric, Alphawave, Arthur Andersen and Easyspace.

It is hoped that the board will be better able to represent the interests of small businesses through the appointment.

On standing for election, Ms Craig-Wood said she could "better represent the interests of small, high-growth IT businesses and the internet services sector on the main board" and has since committed herself to tackling environmental issues within the industry as well.

The association, which was formed in 2002, welcomed Ms Craig-Wood in to her new role yesterday.
