Grow Your Own Advocates: Finding and Accessing Mentors Who Will Make the Difference

  • Have you ever wanted a sounding board who “knows the ropes”?
  • Have you ever felt unsure how things “get done” at the senior levels in your organisation?
  • Have you ever wished you had more advocates in upper management?
  • Have you ever needed a wider career perspective from someone outside your industry?
  • Have you ever wanted to learn what worked (and didn’t!) for someone you admire?
  • Have you ever failed to understand the hidden lessons passed on by “anti-mentors”?

If any of these apply to you and you suspect you could be getting more out of your career by working with a mentor – this is the workshop for you. Too frequently, women do not seek out relationships with senior people as mentors – we hope they will recognise the silent hard work we have been putting in and volunteer to take us under their wing. Occasionally this happens, but more commonly this can lead to career dissatisfaction and resentment at best, and career suicide at worst.

The bad news is that the perfect mentor is unlikely to fall in your lap and that even if your employer operates a formal mentoring scheme, it is not their responsibility to make it a perfect fit.

The good news is the right mentors (yes, more than one!) are out there for you – it’s a matter of finding them and savvily cultivating a relationship. Smart women seek (and become!) mentors at every stage of their career.

Dr. Suzanne Doyle-Morris, author of the career bible for professional women; “Beyond the Boys’ Club” will lead this highly interactive evening workshop. You will focus on how to find and develop rewarding and insightful mentoring relationships that will help you make the most of your career now ...and in the future.

Plus as a special bonus, attendees will go away with a signed copy of the book “Beyond the Boys’ Club: Strategies for Achieving Career Success as a Woman Working in a Male Dominated Field” which looks at mentoring and other smart career strategies for success for women in IT.

This workshop will be lead by Suzanne Doyle-Morris.
