By now, you should have settled back into your work routine and like us are raring to go for the year. We have a lot planned for the network and are happy to be part of some major campaigns, including e-Skills week and the everywoman in Technology Awards in March. One of our focuses this year is to really tap into and engage female tech graduates and support them as they make the transition from studying to working life. We also have some planned changes in regards to our marketing and communications to ensure that you receive relevant information that is of interest to you, so keep an eye out for those.
5. Networking and “breaking through the old boy network" - a chance to take part in some researchElizabeth Quigley is a fifth year International Business and Modern Languages student at Strathclyde Business School. For her dissertation project she is looking into organisational networking for female managers in multinational companies and is particularly interested in hearing about female manager’s experiences and perceptions towards networking and looking at “breaking through the old boy network” as a means for career advancement. For her research, she needs to conduct some semi structured interviews with female managers in Scotland working in multinational companies this month. These interviews will be conducted in your own working environment and will take no longer than 40 minutes. This research is solely for a dissertation project and will not be seen by anyone else other than Elizabeth and the exam board. Participants would have the right to remain anonymous in the study and maintain the right to see the research paper upon completion. If you would be interested in taking part in this research, please contact Elizabeth on 07837 680 337 or elizabeth.quigley@strath.ac.uk
6. Volunteers needed for IT Can Help Campaign, London Good with computers? Then this campaign needs you. You don’t have to be a technical expert. Familiarity as a user with computer hardware and the most commonly used software is enough to volunteer. What's more important is your ability to communicate and your interest in helping disabled people solve the computer problems they have. They are particularly interested in you if you can visit clients in north, east, south and central London. And they need a District Coordinator for East London. Volunteers are expected to make a maximum of four visits per year and even if you have had no previous experience of working with disabled people, they are still very interested in hearing from you and can provide support!
