Application Support Analyst, Global Corporate and Commercial Investment Banking Technology (GCCIBT)

Summary of Business Area
A vacancy exists within the Global Payments and International Branch Technology organization (GPandIBT) to work in the department’s mainframe application support team. The team is primarily focused on the support and maintenance of applications for the Bank’s treasury wholesale business across the globe. The successful candidate will be part of the team providing production support and maintenance of mainframe applications on the Global Banking System (GBS) platform and number of ancillary products and applications related to GBS.

Role Responsibilities 
  • Leverage in-depth mainframe technical skills to resolve production and application issues – this is a hands-on technical level 2 and 3 production support role. 
  • Apply deep technical insights and experience to inform, guide, challenge and support production issues, environmental failures and resolve issues. 
  • Provide ad-hoc design, analysis and code fix support as part of the day to day support team for urgent business issues and enhancement work requests. 
  • Participate in real time problem management conference calls and help to steer towards a swift resolution of issues. 
  • Must be willing to go on overnight support rota (production support) + weekend support responsibilities as required. 
  • Liaison with Business Users in problem determination, communication and resolution. 
  • Manage business queries regarding business as usual topics. 
  • Liaison with vendors in problem determination and resolution of application issues. 
  • Application monitoring, proactive management of potential issues, capacity management and ability to manage the environments end to end. 
  • Supporting Development teams in initiatives and other projects as required 
  • Active engagement in ad-hoc project work. 
  • Must be able to handle multiple moving issues/demands at the same time and also focus on delivering on time.

Skill Requirements
  • Significant industry experience, demonstrable code development and application support role experience.
  • Demonstrable years hands-on experience (demonstrable formal development, bug fix and code enhancement experience) in: COBOL,JCL,IMS DB, IMS DC(basic concepts)
  • Demonstrable experience in COBOL/IMS code analysis and debugging.
  • Hands on DB2 experience would be a significant advantage.
  • Demonstrable experience in: Mainframe Express, VM and Librarian
  • Demonstrable experience of working to resolution complex issues involving multiple groups. Strong analytical skills required and should have a natural ability to research and resolve complex systems, application and user issues
  • Use of Connect:Direct and MQ – Preferred
  • Excellent analytical/problem solving skills – Essential
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal - essential
  • Good understanding of vendor product support and delivery, client/server technology and business contingency/Disaster recovery solutions – Essential
  • Demonstrable experience of working to resolution complex issues involving multiple groups. Strong analytical skills required and should have a natural ability to research and resolve complex systems, application and user issues.
  • Understanding of Software Configuration Management and experience of using Perforce an advantage
  • Must be able to work under pressure on multiple assignments, use own initiative and motivation to meet deadlines and set priorities without close supervision
  • Attention to detail and accuracy are essential.
  • Must be pro-active, enthusiastic, flexible, and results driven. The following would also be advantageous:
  • Understanding of Six Sigma and Enterprise Change Management Methodologies.
  • Experience with Agile / eXtreme Programming project methodology and development teams desirable.
  • Experience in treasury management or payments service platforms.
  • Experience of project management
