An opportunity has arisen for a BES (Business Enterprise Server) Engineer in the Monitoring & Alerting Team. The team is responsible for the support, continuous improvements and delivery of new monitoring solutions into Operations. The role requires the successful candidate to be technically proficient across a number of technologies utilised by the team as well as the ability to rapidly assimilate new technologies. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a wide reaching understanding of IT.
The successful candidate should be self motivated and capable of working on their own or within a team environment.
Main Responsibilities
• Contribute to 24 x 7 technical support for BES.
• Provide technical support for problem diagnosis for the BES environment liaising with other EU departments where necessary, to ensure all problems are resolved professionally with minimal operational or service impact.
• Play a lead role in the administration, installation and maintenance of VISA Europe’s BES monitoring solution, ensuring that all changes are performed professionally and with minimal operational impact.
• Perform proactive checks to ensure the monitoring solutions in use by the VISA Europe’s distributed applications, are performing optimally, and are able to ensure the achievement of Service Level expectations through accurate monitoring and automation capabilities.
• Maintain an awareness and understanding of the current and planned Operation’s software and hardware platforms to ensure Visa’s current and future storage requirements are supported.
• Ensure all change, and request work, assigned to the team is performed in a timely manner. Where possible identify and work to resolve potential problems prior to implementation.
• Provide day-to-day BaU support, implementing changes and testing new code as per agreed promotional processes.
• Monitor and report on the status of projects / meetings attended by the EU BES Management team, liaising with the project groups to ensure that the relevant and up-to-date information is made available to Operations.
• Provide pro-active reporting and resolution of BES incidents to ensure failures do not recur.
• Help identify and develop solutions to help improve the current infrastructure for the benefit of BAU and future projects.
• To develop and deliver monitoring solutions for new business projects.
• Utilise existing out-of-the-box BES functionality including the creation of Service Models.
• Recommend enhancements / improvements to existing technologies and processes where appropriate.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Working knowledge of Interlink Software Business Enterprise Server (BES);
o Configuration of Service Models, Logic Rules and other BES key modules
o Creation of Message Channels
o Understanding of BES processes and event flow
o Ability to run alert queries
o Understanding of administration consoles.
• Working knowledge of Interlink Software Enterprise Dashboard Studio;
o Creation of .NET views
o Understanding of associated xml and jsp files
• Knowledge of UNIX platforms, including proficiency with UNIX commands and utilities, shell scripting and automation techniques
• Good scripting knowledge of at least one of the following (Perl / Shell / Javascript)
• Knowledge of Windows 2000+ environments
• Basic networking understanding
• Problem diagnosis and resolution skills are essential
• Knowledge of MS-Office suite
• Familiarisation with ITIL principles and preferably ISEB accredited.
• Good working knowledge of Visa’s business systems and services.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to take on new technologies and help pass onto other team members.
