The primary purpose of this role is to deliver world-class infrastructure that is optimised, resilient, and highly performing in an ever changing environment within tight deadlines. There is also a large component of innovation that will be required from the successful candidate in the DBA arena to help drive the capability for our key stakeholders. There is also the expectation that 3rd line support on key systems will be required.
Key Responsibilities:- Technical authority in major database technologies
- Produce detailed technical architecture designs
- Innovation of new database technologies
- Development of virtualisation and cloud capabilities
- Assist in the development of standards and procedures
- Provide escalation support services for the organisation's Oracle infrastructure
- Drive the operational excellence of the implementation process through automation & scripting
- Support and offer guidance on design implications on business infrastructure projects
- Support enterprise strategy and planning activities
- Engage and leverage our relationships with strategic suppliers to help resolve problems, demand innovation, and influence product design to accommodate current and future requirements
- Coordination of other technical resources as necessary to provide the appropriate solution
- Assist in the development of hardware and software standards
The ideal candidate is one with relevant experience performing similar duties. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (relevant industry experience) is required. Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to interface with various levels of customers and internal personnel.
You will have specialist knowledge of Oracle 11gR2, Oracle RAC and ASM, Oracle Enterprise Manager
RMAN Backups, DataGuard and/or Active DataGuard, Database migrations and upgrades/patching
Linux and Solaris, Understanding of storage architecture (striping / RAID), GoldenGate experience
Real Application Testing, SQL Server 2008, MySQL 5.0–5.5, MySQL Clusters and CouchDB/MongoDB
You will also have industrial experience in large enterprise sized environments. Managing critical 24x7 OLTP databases with multiple projects under tight deadlines. Strongly oriented towards project delivery, SOX/SAO compliancy and PCI compliancy.
Other skills essential are Oracle 10g & 11g, Oracle RAC/ASM/RMAN/DG/ADG, OEM 10g, Unix skills (RHEL & Solaris) and SQL & PLSQL.
This role will be based in our Head Office in Osterley, West London. Some travel to other Sky locations throughout the UK may be required from time to time
