Designer, UX&D

You've already designed your first iPad app.
You’ve polished your portfolio to perfection.
Your teammates will be distraught when you leave.
You’re a rare talent with vision and drive – check!

What next?

We are the pioneers shaping the future of the BBC. Our design philosophy is about pushing the bounds of modern British design on digital platforms.

From day one you’ll be working with cutting edge products and services; from our News service to the BAFTA award-winning BBC iPlayer. We work with one of the brightest brands on the planet, creating compelling, world-class interfaces that surprise and delight our audiences.

You’ll be part of an established user experience team with access to a wider design community. Along with resident experts in semantic web, usability, visual and user experience design you’ll also get to work with some of the leading external agencies in our field.

We’re looking for designers to help deliver the next big thing in the technology space. You will work as part of a team following a user centred design process to deliver innovative design solutions.

Your skills:
• You’ll offer unbounded creativity and an obsessive attention to detail with a keen eye for typography, colour and layout.
• You're a natural with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign – in fact, you’re constantly picking up new technical skills as and when the need arises.
• You’re passionate about creating simple, useful and accessible interfaces with proven interaction design skills. You’re comfortable creating basic prototypes to generate user feedback.
• You’ll have an exceptional portfolio - from sketches and wireframes through to polished visuals and concepts. Ideally you’ll have worked across web, mobile, games consoles or TV.
• Along with key design skills you’ll also offer a new dynamic to the team. Flash and motion graphics are highly desirable – you might even be a 3D, HTML 5 or CSS guru.
• You'll be able to keep lots of plates spinning (metaphorically) and you’ll be able to juggle the needs of the business with the needs of the user – often championing the best experience for our audiences.
• You’ve got a hard-earned bachelor’s degree in design or a related subject – or the equivalent on-the-job experience… and exceptional communication skills are a must – you’re an expert at winning friends and influencing people.

About you:

• You’re a self-starter with several big ideas just waiting to break through.
• Your enthusiasm is infectious and you will be the one that everyone will want on their team.
• You are design-aware – so much so that you bore your non-designer friends to tears with your favourite examples of everyday design.
• You’re also technology-aware – you know the next big thing before everyone else and how the BBC might use it to its advantage.

The small print…

• You will be aware of personal financial authority limits and to ensure that this authority is exercised in accordance with BBC financial arrangements.
• You will work to the BBC’s policy on Health and Safety.
