Global Rates and Currencies Technology,Structured FX Technology Developer, AVP

Summary of Business Area
The structured FX business is part of the Global Rates and Currencies (GRC) business which is in turn part of the Global Markets business. It is responsible for trading and hedging complex FX products such as FX range accruals, power reverse and snowball/snowblade structures. It works closely with the spot/forward FX trading desk and structured interest rate desk.

Role Responsibilities
The structured FX technology platform is called Genesis. Genesis consists of a core SQL database, a GUI application, and many auxiliary processes. The functionality includes trade capture (directly in the GUI or via spreadsheet link), trade lifecycle management, reporting, and back office feeds such as cashflow and general ledger feeds. There is also a two-way link to the FX Risk Engine (FXRE) for valuation and risk.

Genesis is also used to some degree by the commodities and spot/forward FX trading desks.

The codebase is a combination of VB6, C#, UNIX scripts (including Perl) and SQL. The platform is being actively developed, with typically 5 releases per year. The codebase is challenging due to the long heritage of the application and the large number of businesses supported.

The development team is split between London and India . A separate support team provides first-line support cover.

Key tasks will include:
  • Analyse user requirements and design/code appropriate system changes
  • Provide second-line support to help resolve user requests
  • Assist in the upgrading of the Genesis infrastructure to comply with the firm's baseline requirements and to handle the volumes now being demanded of it
  • Assist in the migration of the business from the existing technology platform to the structured interest rate platform, allowing the interest rate and FX businesses to be combined - this is scheduled to complete by late 2011 and it is expected that once complete, the candidate will continue to support the structured FX desk and will also take on additional responsibilities in related business areas

The role is business facing and provides an excellent opportunity for a candidate to interact with traders, middle office and back office staff.
