As Head of Divisional IT you will have the opportunity to design the systems strategy proposal for the Operations Group of the BBC, with particular focus on the HR Systems. You will report to the Technology Controller, Operations, Finance and FM and will help to drive technology innovation and the development of a clear systems and technology strategy for BBC Operations.
Technology, Distribution & Archive (TD&A) is a group within Operations whose scope of activities and responsibilities include (but is not limited to); setting the technology strategy for the BBC Management of third party supplier and technology partner contracts, delivering on projects of all sizes up to and including multi-million pound technology infrastructure and software projects, ensuring IT and telephone infrastructure availability for all BBC platforms and systems, responsibility for keeping our radio and news channels on air and on-line, working with divisions on developing and delivering their technology strategies, managing the BBC’s archive, IT, Information security, and Business Systems across the BBC, distribution of all of the BBC’s Television & Radio Linear and Red button services on DTT, DSAT, FM, DAB, MW and LW Platforms.
Within this role, you will be responsible for setting the technology strategy for the Operations Group of the BBC. You'll be the expert and adviser on all technology matters, bringing the most up to date and tested thinking to the table ensuring that technology is used as a driver for change and innovation. You will ensure strategic alignment between the enterprise technology strategy and business needs, and provide technical expertise to those managing the BBC’s outsourced business process contracts. BBC Operations is a wide-ranging group of the BBC, covering all back-office functions, except Finance.
You will produce an end to end systems strategy for the BBC HR Systems; SAP, People Forms, Freelancer systems and other related HR systems, with a roadmap for each system and taking account of the systems responsibilities of the BBC's outsourced providers. You will develop the strategy for systems in the Operations group, through working collaboratively with the division, the outsourced providers and technology colleagues. In addition, you'll develop and manage relevant relationships within BBC Operations, across the BBC and with external partners/suppliers to best support the business. The strategy that you design will establish and maintain prioritisation of systems investment that aligns to business priorities; ensuring that technology-enabled change is tracked and measured and that technology-related business risks for the division are identified, monitored and appropriately mitigated.
Experience of recently implementing an HR Systems strategy is a must, ideally including payroll, along with knowledge of SAP HR solutions. You will have extensive experience of setting the strategy for and delivering a portfolio of back-office system solutions, whilst working effectively within collaborative team structures, as a leader and team player, ideally in a technology based business environment.
In addition, you should have the following:
- The capability to rapidly understand and accurately assess business needs and prioritise and propose
suitable technical or process solutions.
- Strategic thinking: the ability to evaluate options in the short, medium and long term and balance short
terms pressures against longer-term strategic requirements.
- Experience of managing technology services in an outsourced services environment.
- An ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across the BBC and externally, including
third party suppliers.
Desirable skills include:
- Experience in major procurements of technology-based products and services from third parties.
- Experience of implementing new initiatives or driving through process change and new ways of working.
