The BBC’s Technology, Distribution and Archive (TD&A) division is recruiting for a Head of Systems Development within its Enterprise Systems Integration discipline. The Systems Development function is responsible for developing and delivering the solutions which support the BBC’s goals of providing cutting edge industry leading solutions which transform the way people work.
The department comprises the development and delivery teams which deliver technology solutions across the BBC including the systems for the digital production of programmes for TV, Radio and online platforms, broadcast scheduling, corporate web sites, the BBC intranet, the BBC’s Digital Archive and the enabling digital production tools being deployed into Media City UK.
The systems developed by the group are deployed across BBC locations globally, built on a combination of technologies ranging from Java Linux Microsoft .NET running on Windows platforms, to applications running on mobile platforms such as Apple OS and Android utilizing a suite of commercial and open source technology products including Apache/Tomcat, Oracle, IBM Websphere, IBM DB2, Microsoft Sharepoint, SAP Business Objects, Microsoft SQL Server.
Your role will include the management of the internal and 3rd party development teams tasked with designing, building, testing, deploying, maintaining the application interfacing, database integration, reporting and workflow services that integrate 3rd party COTS and in-house developed Enterprise IT systems. Scope includes:
• Integration between customised/bespoke BBC broadcast and production systems with COTS products for ERP, HR, Finance, Business Intelligence and Operational Reporting
• Data migrations for systems replacements/upgrades/refreshes
• The BBC Gateway teams designing and delivering the BBC intranet / extranet and corporate web sites
• Development, maintenance and support of pan BBC services for enterprise integration and business systems including Enterprise Application Integration platforms, Data Warehouses, Business Intelligence platforms, Collaboration and Portal platforms, Mobile platforms, Single Sign On platforms, Data Management and ETL platforms
In order to deliver effectively in this position you will have the following key experience:
• Significant demonstrated experience of implementing large scale and mission critical Enterprise Integration, Intranet/Extranet, Collaboration and Data Warehousing solutions that meet complex business and operational requirements, utilising a mixture of in-house and third party resources, agile and formal project methodologies, against commercial and/or timeline business constraints.
• In-depth and up-to-date knowledge of all areas of Enterprise Systems Integration, Intranet/Extranet, Collaboration, Data Warehousing systems development methodologies, software development tools, technologies and standards (as currently in use at the BBC, or defined within the BBC Technology strategy)
• Proven expert in managing multiple stakeholders at all levels of the organisation, communicating effectively, establishing consensus and facilitating decision making, including at senior executive levels.
• Demonstrable experience of working effectively within collaborative team structures, as a leader and team player, in a technology based business environment.
• Demonstrable experience of team performance management against personal, team, departmental and divisional objectives
• Proven ability to rapidly understand and accurately assess business and operational requirements, architectural goals and constraints, and prioritise and propose suitable technical delivery models and/or solutions.
• Significant demonstrated experience in major procurements of technology-based products and services from third parties.
• Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across the BBC and externally, including third party suppliers.
• Proven experience of resource management, delivery planning and forecasting, with the ability to interpret complex financial data, manage budgets and ensure effective financial control.
