Exploration and Production Technology (EPT) provides BP Business Units with the highest quality expert personnel for technical projects; promotes and oversees the development and application of new technologies. Together with the Business Units, EPT ensures that the application of innovative technology delivers “best-in-class” results while achieving BP’s commitment of no accidents, no harm to people, and no damage to the environment.
The Imaging Flagship is part of the Subsurface Unit in EPT, and comprises approximately 75 Geoscience specialists in Houston, Sunbury and Aberdeen who conduct R&D, R&D deployment, and Specialist Technical Services. The Imaging Flagship consists of five teams providing a broad range of geophysical services – three teams in Houston and two in Sunbury/Aberdeen. R&D activity is focused on the development of technologies for seismic imaging, data acquisition and processing, and reservoir characterisation.
This position will be within one of the Imaging flagship teams in Houston. The Seismic Rock Properties Specialist will contribute to R&D and specialist technical services covering technologies such as log data QC and analysis, and predicting amplitude-versus-offset (AVO) and 4D responses based on petrophysical analysis.
Qualifications
MS or PhD in Geoscience or related discipline
Essential experience and job requirements:
-Background in Petrophysics
-In-depth understanding of AVO and lithology and fluid prediction
-At least five years industry experience
Other essential skills and knowledge:
-In-depth understanding of 3D and 4D seismic. Application of seismic technology to prospect identification and field development.
-A strong commitment to Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE)
Desirable criteria and qualifications:
-Working knowledge of fundamentals of seismic processing and interpretation.
-Proficiency with the Landmark software suite
-Experience/exposure with Geolog, Techlog, Hampson-Russell AVO, Jason software packages
-Experience working with 4D seismic/feasibility studies
