As a Senior Designer with substantial experience in design, complemented by knowledge of usability, accessibility, and information architecture coupled with a portfolio of successfully delivered projects that demonstrate design expertise and experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams of designers, producers, and software developers, you will be in your element in our User Experience and Design (UX&D) Department within our Future Media (FM) Division.
The BBC Future Media (FM) User Experience and Design (UX&D) team is responsible for delivering world-class interactive sites and services that support the BBC’s broadcast output and provide compelling user experiences in their own right on the internet, mobile and interactive TV platforms (Desktop, Mobile, TV & Tablet).

As a Senior Designer you will provide design leadership on mobile, web and interactive TV projects. You will be working in collaboration with stakeholders and will propose solutions that balance user need with business goals and technological capabilities. You will also seek to exploit the opportunities for innovative visual design offered by new and emerging technology platforms.
MAIN DUTIES
• Lead the design streams within projects, working directly with producers, technical teams and information architects to create new and revise existing products.
• To develop and drive the practice of user experience design including new tools and techniques.
• To mentor and develop other visual design team members providing reasoned critique where necessary.
• To maintain regular contact with other design counterparts in own and other divisions to ensure a consistent approach to the design style and branding of the interactive output.
• Show enthusiasm and a strategic approach to your work.
• To keep abreast of industry developments in new platforms and technology and be able to interpret how these would impact BBC services from a design perspective. Ensure that the team is well informed about the latest technologies, techniques and ideas in visual design.
• To help set and maintain design standards with management, guide and art direct the work of the design team to ensure the quality control of all design work and the adherence to BBC design guidelines.
• To write up initial design briefs with the editorial and technical leads to determine the style, look, feel and functionality for new multi-platform projects.
• To be aware of personal financial authority limits and to ensure that this authority is exercised in accordance with BBC financial arrangements.
• To work to the BBC’s policy on Health and Safety.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
1. Bachelor's degree in design or related field or equivalent experience.
2. Substantial demonstrable experience in design, complemented by knowledge of usability, accessibility, and information architecture.
3. A portfolio of successfully delivered projects that demonstrate design expertise.
4. Experience in working with multi-disciplinary teams of designers, producers, and software developers.
5. Experience teaching, coaching, and mentoring designers.
6. A thorough understanding of the issues relating to allocating resources and an awareness of the issues surrounding the pressures and stresses within a design team.
7. Excellent organisational skills, with particular emphasis on assessing priorities when dealing with heavy workloads and tight deadlines.
8. An in-depth understanding of the design process and how new media can deliver audience needs and contribute to the BBC’s audience’s aims and aspirations.
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present information concisely; and to influence others, and to negotiate, persuade and sell ideas whilst maintaining trust and confidence.
