Senior Development Lead (Tools)

Summary
Microsoft Office is one of the most recognizable brands in the world. Including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint and many others; it enables users to realize their potential at home, at work and at play. The various products that go into the different Office offerings are localized, in some form, into over 100 languages; providing local products to even more markets and cultures than any other piece of software in the world. The tools team produces tools, systems and components that allow millions of words in the software to be transformed into the equivalent local representation for each of these languages and markets. Working in this team means that you work on software that tens of millions of users will benefit from. It is as big as it gets in the software landscape. The team manages and works on a portfolio of software projects in any release of Office and generates substantial innovations, recognized by numerous patent applications. The team has won many internal awards for advancement of the engineering systems in Microsoft, and is well recognized for the talented individuals that work in it. It is a fun, challenging and hugely inventive team and it needs someone to lead it to the next level.

Purpose
As a Lead of Software Development Engineer, you will work with PM and Test teams to design, develop, and deliver quality loc systems and hosted services to the Microsoft engineering process. You must feel comfortable operating within a fast moving research and development team. You will need to have great core development skills: strong passion for delivering quality products, proven track record of working with PM/Test, great design, coding, and debugging skills, and excellent written and oral communication. The ability to handle multiple concurrent releases and demonstrated experience driving for results in a cross-group project is a must. You will manage a great team of highly talented individuals, and strive to provide career development opportunities for them. You must have a strategic outlook and will drive the strategy for the team for each three year cycle in conjunction with your peers in PM / Test. You will be personally reasonable for the continued success and all the rewards that this would entail.

Requirements should include
You should possess a strong technical background and a good grasp of software engineering principles, exceptional problem solving, design, and programming skills, and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in delivering software solutions. You should be self-motivated and self-directed and able to coach lead and mentor team members. A demonstrated ability to come up-to-speed quickly on a new technical domain is presumed. Excellent interpersonal communication skills, written communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment are very important. And demonstrated management skills are required.
