Senior Software Engineer/Senior .NET Developer

As our Software Engineer, you will work in a growing in-house team (10+) developing Onalytica’s online software services and product lines. You will work on building great features, writing great code, and simply doing a great job. You can demonstrate having worked on one or more completed projects and have experience across all the (agile) software development lifecycle stages needed to release a product, and have been essential to those projects’ successes. You should have a track record of consistently rendering clear technical judgment and routinely considering project-level issues. You can show examples of innovation, a consistent delivery track record, and unique contributions beyond the call of duty. You have provided technical guidance to or supervised others in your team unit and are seen as a champion who can consider both internal and external aspects of a project and ensure they are handled correctly and with consistently sound judgment.

Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Developing world-class software and application solutions for advanced analysis of the online debate
  • Showing professional leadership by example and help mentor and coach your peers in the software engineering team
  • Staying focused on all aspects of your development projects and ensure they are handled correctly and with consistently sound judgement
  • Creating software requirements, architecture and designs for implementation in current and future product lines
  • Performing hands-on software development according to a specified design using .NET languages, development tools and technologies, and Windows environments
  • Running software to detect defects and evaluate features using sound debugging and testing methods
  • Using tools, technology, methodologies, and techniques for software engineering
  • Working with quality assurance functions to measure and improve software development quality, timeliness, efficiency, productivity, and other project and product characteristics

To be considered for this position, you will:
  • Be degree-educated in Computer Science, Engineering or Computational Sciences or have equivalent experience
  • Demonstrate a very solid track record of team-based software development in multiple projects during your career to-date
  • Be driven to be a great developer, ideally with 8+ years of software development experience behind you – solid understanding of object-orientation, programming principles, algorithms, patterns, and idioms
  • Be able to extract requirements and develop user stories for the team to implement
  • Be able to self-organise and fit into an on-going (agile) Scrum development process
  • Be able to work with product leads to define requirements, user stories and delivery acceptance-criteria
  • Have up-to-date and complete understanding of modern software development methodologies
  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Have an unquenchable thirst for continual improvement, learning rapidly and eagerly
  • Possess hands-on experience with Microsoft stack (.NET, C#, (Iron)Ruby/Python, SQL Server 2008, ASP.NET (MVC), Windows Server 2008 R2 web and application servers, Visual Studio IDE), and XML, source control tools, automated build processes, continuous integration, unit testing, mock objects, coding guidelines & development best practices
  • Be able to work independently as necessary

Ideally you should be:
  • A creative thinker with strong problem solving skills
  • Strong business acumen
  • Experienced in dealing with users, the business and customers
