Senior Support Analyst (UNIX)

We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Support Analyst (UNIX) to join the Sky Betting & Gaming Division. The main responsibility will be to manage all aspects of the Informix and MySQL databases to ensure the availability and performance of Sky Betting & Gaming online services and back office services, ensuring an optimal customer experience at all times  



As a Senior Support Analyst, your key responsibilities will include;   

 * Installing, configuring and testing Informix and MySQL databases.

 * Assisting in the analysis and design of new database systems ensuring adherence to technical standards, data standards, best practice, and integration with other data sources.

 * Installing, configuring, testing and maintaining database management software, database utilities and layered products including the application of patches and upgrades ensuring that version control procedures are observed and supplier and user documentation is maintained.

 * Monitoring database activity and ensures efficient access to data. Undertakes regular exercises to optimise database performance.

 * Implementing, monitoring and maintaining database security and data integrity controls in accordance with system security policies.

 * Planning and implementing procedures for backup and restore of databases, ensuring backups have been successfully executed according to schedule, planning and managing exercises to prove recovery procedures.  Implements recovery procedures when necessary.

 * Ensuring that database problems are investigated, diagnosed and resolved, referring to database users, other IT personnel and suppliers as necessary.

 * Contributing to the setting of standards for database objects (e.g. naming conventions) and ensures conformance to these standards.

 * Preparing and maintaining technical procedures for database hardware and software.

 * Manages and controls database resources. Working with the capacity management function, plans for current and future storage requirements, and prepares cases for additional resources.

 * Ensuring that appropriate monitoring is in place for early identification of capacity issues.

 * Planning for the replacement or enhancement of the relevant system as it reaches the end of its lifecycle in order to have a proper transition to the follow-on system.

 * Actively participate in the team and departmental service improvement plans for achieving overall Sky Betting and Gaming goals.  Provide guidance and advice on the possibilities or opportunities of system enhancements that are available to improve the service provided.

 



 The successful candidate will have;  

 * Relevant degree or equivalent in Computing or related subject or relevant commercial experience

 * Thorough knowledge of the management and administration of Relational Database Management Systems operating within UNIX, Linux and Windows environments.

 * Knowledge of physical and logical database design including data modelling.

 * Knowledge of Unix (preferably Solaris), Linux (preferably Redhat) and Windows operating systems

 * Significant experience working in a Support environment of an online business platform generating £100m revenues

 * Database tuning and capacity management and monitoring skills

 * Installation, patching and db creation to standards

 * Database replication

 * Data movement techniques

 * Backup and recovery using onbar

 * Database query optimisation skills

 * Good knowledge of Linux and Unix (preferably Solaris), including shell scripting.
