Role Summary
A fantastic development opportunity for a technical professional to broaden their knowledge in the demanding world of SIM cards and SIM server technology. As part of a small team in a Global business you will have scope to grow and be given the opportunity to work on exciting new technologies including Machine to Machine cards, Java card and Contactless SIM cards.
To manage the testing and introduction of new SIM/USIM platforms and profiles to the business. To own and manage the technical acceptance of new SIM cards through Vodafone’s SIM approval process. Provide reporting to the business and suppliers on testing performance ensuring all key issues are raised and addressed prior to launch. Ownership of key SIM test areas within Vodafone with the responsibility for creating and maintaining both new and existing test areas.
Essence of Role
1. To ensure test acceptance of SIM cards delivered into VF UK and Vodafone Global to agreed timescales
Manage SIM cards through the Technical Acceptance process
Define testing requirements in line with the SIM capabilities
Review SIM defects and assign severities
Provide assistance to suppliers on SIM faults and the test process.
Support testers in fault verification/technical issues
Perform SIM testing as appropriate
Provide coaching / training to other testers as required.
Update departmental tools with relevant information.
Work with suppliers on demonstrating and explaining faults and issues
2. Provide reporting on device testing
Ensure all reporting is delivered to a professional standard
Information is clear, concise and suitable for the audience, Technical through to Commercial
Ensure all effected parties are aware of SIM issues and implications
Assist the SIM Technical Capability Specialists to create/maintain KPIs on supplier performance.
Maintain a proactive customer focussed attitude
3. Review new technologies and their impact on testing
Build knowledge through Vodafone wide peers and Authorities and Industry best practice
Knowledge of, and maintaining relationships with, suppliers, partners and customers
Design, development and maintenance of test scripts to support new technologies
4. Development and introduction of new SIM/USIM platforms and profiles
Creation of SIM profiles to meet the requirements of VFUK and its MVNO partners
Supplier management to ensure SIM products are delivered to agreed Vodafone quality standards
Monitoring and reporting of development progress
Analysis and management of SIM/Handset interoperability issues
Specification of tool and process requirements to support new technologies and capabilities
5. SIM team representation on Vodafone UK and Group Technology Projects
Develop and maintain relationship with Vodafone UK and Global SIM stakeholders
Document client requirements and propose solutions for low to moderately complex projects
Provide timely feedback to projects regarding the status of issues and develop action plans for resolution where appropriate

Technical/Professional Expertise
Essential
Relevant degree qualification or equivalent.
Good knowledge of radio access technologies including GSM, GPRS and UMTS.
Testing experience within the mobile telecoms sector
Commercial awareness and appreciation of market pressures.
Desired
A working knowledge of Smartcard technologies and a detailed understanding of the SIM and USIM
Broad, system-level understanding of mobile network infrastructure
Knowledge of Vodafone products and services, with an understanding of the supporting device and network capabilities.
Knowledge of SIM OTA services and tools
Database knowledge
