Solution Design Engineer

Role Summary
To provide the technical architectural support on client opportunities across the UCG portfolio of Enterprise Data products and services. Main focus is to provide technical designs, upgrades and services quotes to the existing customer base. They will also provide support for the successful integration of the chosen product or service exceeding the Customers expectations in designing and pricing solutions. To support the technical relationship with Product and Marketing updates on existing products and services within the UCG portfolio. This will include understanding and communicating customer requirements to aid in product/service development. Provide Technical support for nominated products and be responsible for UCG preparedness (technical, sales, and training) in assisting the data sale.
Support UCG bid propositions with technical product and services details. To provide support in assessing & qualifying in/out bid opportunities on technical & commercial merit. For your market sector, manage our engagement with Customers, Suppliers, Sales & internal resources. Support the final design & pricing into sales for both the solution and services elements of all bids, Provide key information and support to deliver proposition response information, and when required assist in defining and presenting our propositions at customer meetings.
To work with the Solution Design team to maximise potential market penetration through adhering to business process and developing product opportunities & offers in line with business initiatives.
To maximise the potential Vodafone group revenues from every opportunity and where relevant engage other business units to support selective bids.

Key Responsibilities
 
  • Use your technology competence to qualify and support quotes and bids. 
  • When required adopt a client focused engagement approach to manage & deliver a technical design, working with sales & the customer to extract and define the business and technical requirements for specific projects. 
  • Take a support role in specifying the components of an overall proposition and defining the functional, technical & commercial benefits. 
  • Manage the production & delivery of solution pricing & designs including any necessary HLD or supporting information.
  • Where required support proposition and roadmap information for your product via presentations, meetings and seminars.

Impact on the business
Contribute to team capability and development of best-in-class designs and proposals, including supporting design authority for technical and operational aspects of solutions designed for clients.
Whilst always focusing on the client needs first and foremost aim to improve UCG profitability by ensuring your solution design and technical specification are accurate and utilise vendor promotions where appropriate.
Accelerate client awareness of UCG Service capabilities by ensuring you develop the competence, confidence and habit of articulating.

Customers, supplier and third parties

Improve continuous service delivery to internal customers by supporting cross VBS capability within the solution design team. This is to be achieved by you developing a "primary" and "secondary" technical competence.
Improve the client experience through professionally disciplined Pre-sales engagements. Demonstrate your role in improving the client experience by assisting in the production of case references in conjunction with Sales, Marketing and Project Management. Build ‘Case Reference’ engagements to demonstrate continual excellence in designing client solutions that meet and solve business issues.

Leadership and teamwork

To adhere to the mechanisms for measurement and continuous improvement across all of the business streams within UCG.

To find new ways to maximise the potential Vodafone group revenues by developing co-operative working practices and markets.

Knowledge and experience

Knowledge of Opportunity Lifecycle Process, with an understanding of the process steps.
Experience of working in sectors that are not telecoms-specific, such as Government/Public Sector
An understanding of complex Services bids – including commercial modelling, technology solution and business assurance operational deals

Communication
A good verbal and written communicator, able to communicate both technical and non-technical colleagues to complete tasks as required.

Technical/Professional Expertise
Essential
Degree qualified or equivalent in an computer science or engineering discipline.
Experience of solution design for large Enterprise/Corporate sector.
Comprehensive knowledge of Avaya/Nortel propositions & competitive offerings
Holder of key Vendor accreditations.
Customer relationship management skills at IT Manager level
Able to present and perform confidently at IT Manager level
