This is a fantastic opportunity for you to work with one of the UK’s top Media companies on one of our flagship products, BBC iPlayer. We would like you to work with the iPlayer for Web Test Team, helping to successfully deliver high quality, fit for purpose products for the BBC.
Our team sits within the Programmes On Demand (POD) department and our mission is to power the next generation of BBC online activities, increasing brand awareness while ensuring we are best placed to attract the UK and worlds leading talent.
The POD department sits within the Future Media (FM) Division which aims to generate new and exciting innovation and design, bringing BBC to the forefront of technology greatness. We want to power the next generation of video on demand online activities across TV, Mobile, Web, Consoles, and hundreds of other devices and access methods. POD covers two main areas; responsible for building audience-facing products such as BBC iPlayer, channel and brand destinations on the Web, on TVs, on Set-top boxes, on Mobile devices, online radio, and online music. The team also builds components and services used across the BBC, including search, media playback, user authentication, and social media.
Though our products already rank among the most popular in the UK, we see a great deal of creativity and growth in the future. In partnership with the BBC editorial teams, we will transform the way media is consumed online and create experiences that weren’t possible in a traditional broadcast environment. And with the 2012 Olympics around the corner, this team will be at the centre of innovation for an entirely new way of engaging with the games!
You will require a great deal of technical experience as you will need to learn the product architecture and the interactions of a variety of back-end components. You will need to be a keen system tester with acute attention to detail and have experience of some system level automation, Selenium, in order to help you test as much of the system as possible within each Agile sprint.

Required Experience
Solid experience of working in a test driven environment
• First and foremost you should be a highly motivated System Tester
• Must have Software Engineering or Computer Science to degree level or higher; or show technical competence and enthusiasm for the role
• Must have an ISEB qualification; or show you have read extensively around the subject of testing methods
• Demonstrable knowledge of and experience of applying advanced testing techniques including formal Exploratory testing
• Working knowledge of:
o Web technologies; e.g. Flash
o Advanced features of popular Web Browsers; e.g. IE/Firefox/Safari/Chrome
o Hands-on test automation with browser driven automation tools, e.g. Selenium 2/Webdriver
o Programming knowledge, ideally JavaScript or Ruby
o Advanced Windows, OSX & Linux usage
o CI environments; e.g. Hudson
• Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
• A strong team player who is willing to articulate opinions with an eye for detail and a genuine can-do attitude
• You will be motivated and committed to learn and develop your technical ability
• A good knowledge of the software development / test life cycle, combined with extensive experience of designing and executing test cases; scripted and unscripted
