The BBC is currently looking for a Systems & Infrastructure Specialist to join the Digital Distribution and Operations Department, responsible for the operation and management of the BBC's online, mobile and iTV infrastructure, including media streaming, web platforms and network & distribution channels for all digital media.
As a Systems and Infrastructure Specialist, you will work within the Infrastructure Team in Operations and be responsible for the Infrastructure functions of BBC platforms used to support BBC Online services. One of your responsibilities will be to maintain hardware environments relating to the BBC’s online services. This will include development, stage and production systems across all BBC data centres.
This is a challenging role, and as such we need someone to have the following experience and technical skills for us to be able to consider them:
• Practical experience in a systems administration and management role using Microsoft Windows Server 2003 & 2008 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux
• Experience of server operating system and application deployment, configuration and maintenance
• Microsoft Internet Information Server / Apache
• Installation and maintenance of Intel/AMD based server hardware (mainly HP)
• Experience in resolving problems across a multi platform environment.
• Experience of monitoring of Service thresholds
• Computer literate in a MS-Windows/MS-Office environment
• Good understanding of security issues
• Experience of working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams with a focus on delivery in a rapidly changing environment
As well as the above, we’d like you to have demonstrable knowledge of three or more of the following:
o Physical infrastructure build & management
o Knowledge of building highly scalable systems
o Knowledge of DNS and related protocols
o Experience of using administrative build tools, ideally Cobbler & Puppet or HP’s RDP tool
o Implementation of monitoring tools and SNMP
o Experience of virtualisation, particularly using VMware and Zen
o Web server (ideally Apache) configuration and management.
o Experience of multiple database environments
o Experience of power management & monitoring
o Experience of maintaining Cisco devices
This is a great role within a team which can provide a lot of training, progression and hands on experience around major, low tolerance systems.
