As a dynamic, results-oriented, detail-oriented, and highly collaborative Technical Project Manager with a wealth of experience in fast paced software engineering teams in a variety of projects, including shipping major 1.0 releases coupled with a passion for technology and consumer-facing media products, you will be in your element in our Core Services team.
Future Media (FM) Programmes and On Demand (POD) is responsible for BBC iPlayer and the BBC’s Radio & Music proposition on PC, mobile, and TV. The department also builds services used across the BBC including media transcoding and publishing, metadata publishing and media playback. Core Services, within POD, is the team responsible for the online delivery of all BBC AV material and the associated metadata, from publishing through to playout and the audience experience.
You are a natural leader who knows how to define lightweight processes that help engineering teams achieve their potential, and you will win the support of others on the team in adopting those processes. You will be motivated by shaping and delivering the future technology behind BBC Online.
You will be responsible for the delivery of software projects and services, as part of a multi-disciplinary team and will facilitate the collaborative working of small teams practicing Agile delivery methods, managing the delivery of new media projects, products and services on a range of platforms.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
• Strong project management experience in a software delivery environment, delivering bespoke, full lifecycle software projects. Competence with standard project management techniques and software
• Experience of delivering projects using Agile development techniques, including Agile estimating and planning. A good understanding of the benefits of using these techniques and the ability to articulate these benefits clearly
• Broad technical knowledge of application architecture, system architecture, relational databases, object oriented languages and web technologies
• Demonstrable experience of resource estimating and planning and managing budgets within projects (projects of at least 3-6 months duration, with budgets of 100-500k)
• Competency with a range of project management tools such, e.g.Jira/Greenhopper, Microsoft Project
• Highly developed communication skills, and experience of communicating key project management information to all stakeholder groups and audiences
• Experience of leading multi-disciplinary delivery teams of between 4-10 people
• A track record of good relationship management including motivation, collaboration and communication; ability to negotiate with and influence others to achieve the desired outcome for the project
• A good and up-to-date understanding of the new media industry and the competitive forces facing the BBC
• Evidence of problem solving and providing creative solutions
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
• A strong interest in BBC Online products and content output
• Attendance at Certified Scrum Master training
• Formal Project Management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2 Practitioner/ISEB Certification in Project Management)
• An understanding of the BBCs internet infrastructure would be an advantage
• Working knowledge of BBC output; editorial, compliance, and regulatory issues for the BBC
• Active involvement and contribution within Agile Community
