Job Description
The MIS Consultant role within the MIS portfolio is to support the delivery of projects surrounding a new data warehouse / business intelligence system known internally as Globalisation of Reporting (GoR). The MIS portfolio operates two BI / reporting and data provisioning systems which run on distinct technologies. The first is GBS MIS - a legacy mainframe system (VM / NOMAD) currently being sunset. The second is GoR – a system based on up to date technologies and utilising a Netezza MPP data warehousing appliance, Oracle, Informatica and Microstrategy.
The role focuses on internal, IT led, projects that are continuing the build out of the GoR system and also on supporting business (or other technology partner) focussed projects leveraging the GoR system. Respective examples of these types of projects are the construction of reporting data stores and the delivery of end user reporting. The role therefore encompasses elements of requirements analysis (and negotiation), systems analysis, mentoring, data modelling support, development support and test support. An end to end focus on solution delivery and the ability to liaise with GoR users and other IT team members are therefore key qualities as is banking domain knowledge (treasury / commercial highly desirable). The role is not suitable for candidates who favour a specific area of the systems development lifecycle or who are solely motivated by either IT or business facing roles. Excellent inter-personal skills are essential.
In addition the MIS consultant will need to have a broad background in different technologies and some experience of BI / data warehousing / data modelling / ETL / SQL is essential. Specific experience of the technologies used within the MIS portfolio is desirable although it is recognised that these are niche in places. Thorough training and KT will be provided in these areas. However an appetite to learn new technologies and their application within a commercial treasury banking context will be essential to success in this role. There is an expectation that the successful applicant will become a recognised expert in all aspects of the GoR system and its business context.
