The Back Office Application Management team leader (at Assistant Manager grade) will lead and develop a new team in the ITS function. This is a great opportunity to transform an operational support team into an enhanced application management function, managing applications throughout their lifecycle. This role has a lot of scope to engage and build relationships with many parts of the IT function, business stakeholders and vendors. This is a growth area for the IT function, and there will be scope to steer how the function develops.


Role description

The team’s function is to manage applications throughout their lifecycle, including internally hosted, cloud-based, off-the-shelf and bespoke applications. This is a new team and the team leader will play an integral part in the development of the function.


The role plays an important part in leading a team that is responsible for application related aspects of designing, testing, operating and improving IT Services. This is a hands-on role, so the candidate will need to balance team leader’s duties with technical engineering and support work. The role is also responsible for developing the skills needed to operate the applications required to deliver IT services.


Our IT function is based over multiple geographical locations (including colleagues in India), therefore part of the role will also include managing remote teams.



We are open to discussions regarding which of our offices the successful candidate will be based out of. Examples of relevant locations include London, Milton Keynes and Reading.

  • Provide application management services to the business to assist their productivity
  • Identify team development opportunities and development and training plans to increase quality of service to the business
  • Team objective setting and performance management to keep team members engaged and motivated
  • Ability to collaborate, build and maintain relationships with relevant teams and functions
  • Respond to service outages which affect Deloitte’s business operation and reputation, including out of hours escalations as part of a 24 x 7 on-call rota
  • Maintain the performance, availability and security of applications and web services, with a focus on continuous service improvement
  • Maintain technology compliance standards, integration requirements and landing space policy




  • Proven team leadership experience in a dynamic, enterprise environment
  • Able to build solid relationships and collaborate and negotiate amongst multiple stakeholders
  • Strong experience of web technologies, including Microsoft and Apache/Tomcat, LAMP
  • Excellent grasp of application and web architectures
  • Experience in load balancing technologies (F5), DNS, firewalls and VPNs
  • Lotus Domino experience
  • Experience of supporting public cloud, including Azure and AWS
  • Experience of operating under a SCOM environment
  • Sound understanding of the ITIL framework
