Role description

  • Client and customer focussed Technical Specialist and Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Servers, Storage and Networking components that provide the underlying infrastructure platforms that support the Client IT function.
  • Reporting to the ITC Client IT Manager, Client IT is directly responsible for the delivery of total infrastructure solutions as requested by the business and the subsequent operational management, support and administration of the platforms underpinning infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • The ITC (Platforms) will be required to work closely with the other Client IT teams to provide total Infrastructure solutions (covering servers, storage and networks) to meet business requirements within an agreed delivery timeframe SLA and then fully support and manage the solution within a similar operational support SLA
  • The Client IT Platforms will be provided on a 24x7 basis therefore out of hours activities for both delivery and support will be required including on-call cover 
  • Liaise directly with the business throughout the request-delivery-support life-cycle acting as their technical interface and solution delivery owner
  • Business request technical validation, solution design and creation of an implementation plan within a Statement of Works (SOW) including infrastructure component costs
  • Raise RFC’s for delivery and operation changes and act as peer review and approver of delivery or operational changes raised by others
  • Operational management and administration of the Client IT Infrastructure Platform’s including but not limited to the following tasks, backup and restore,
  • Patching and vulnerability protection of Infrastructure platforms, Pro-active capacity management and planning of Infrastructure platforms, Monitoring of Infrastructure platforms
  • Incident and problem investigation, including trouble-shooting to identify issue root cause or workarounds to restore the respective infrastructure and or applications to service within agreed SLA’s, including trouble-ticket analysis (review, update and closure) working alongside the other Client IT teams
  • Pro-active approach to operational management, adopting Continuous Service Improvement practices to keep the Client IT platforms regularly updated and current
  • Work alongside the Orchestration designer to ensure the server-build automation processes are quality checked, tested and signed off as operational
  • Ownership and Management of the Operational “In-life” Server-Build Orchestration process to ensure automation processes are working as expected and manually building servers by exception if required
  • Create, update and maintain Infrastructure “life-cycle” technical documentation

 

Requirements

  • Highly client and customer focused liaising with the business throughout the request-delivery-support lifecycle
  • Technical validation and delivery of Business Requests as “Total infrastructure solutions” against an SLA
  • Operational management, administration and support of Client IT Platforms against an SLA

 

 

Essential Technical Skills/Competencies:

 

Demonstrable knowledge and experience to undertake the role should include the following:

  • Minimum 2 years exclusive experience using Microsoft Hyper-V 2012r2 within an enterprise environment.
  • Strong Powershell scripting capability.
  • Proven experience of Netapp Storage (Clustered On-Tap), including capacity management and platform scaling.
  • Cisco UCS platform management
  • Flexpod reference architecture experience
  • Cisco Data Centre Networking solutions (in particular Nexus).
  • Microsoft Server Operating System administration (2008/2012R2)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft AD/DNS/DHCP
  • Experience with automated monitoring systems and technologies with a practical knowledge of MS SCOM
  • Experience with Windows patching procedures
  • Experience of Linux systems and in particular Redhat
  • Awareness of Analytics applications eg:- Tableau, Qlikview etc..

  • Cisco DC Unified Computing Design (DCUCD)
  • Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP)
  • Cisco DC Unified Fabric Design (DCUFD)
  • Cisco Certified Network Professional/Data Centre (CCNP)
  • Netapp Accredited Storage Architect Professional (ASAP)
  • Microsoft Virtualization certification (Exam 74–409)
  • Microsoft Server Infrastructure certification (MCSE)

  • In-depth understanding of how IT infrastructure components enable business services
  • Hands on approach with ability to 'juggle' several tasks at once
  • Must be diplomatic and persuasive with an ability to handle difficult conversations
  • Ability to critically assess proposals from 3rd party suppliers and proposed IT projects within the organisation

  • Experience of liaising with virtual teams and external suppliers from a delivery perspective
  • Self-starter/ pro-active initiative
  • Methodical  and logical thinker
  • Prepared to be hands on (i.e. practical)
  • A diligent and conscientious approach to carrying out work is essential
  • Ability to create and follow documented processes

 

Additional desirable experience includes:

  • Degree level* or qualified by experience
  • Concentration in Computer Science or an IT-related discipline preferred
