M&C Saatchi Innovation are looking for a new back end developer.

We are effectively a start-up within the organisation, and require someone with the ability to flex their current skills to cover a variety of areas successfully, and to develop new abilities as they help us making materially significant inventions.

M&C Saatchi has big clients. We have small clients. We have in-between clients. We work across the M&C Saatchi Group in the UK (including LIDA, M&C Saatchi Export, M&C Saatchi World Services, M&C Saatchi PR, M&C Saatchi Shop and M&C Saatchi Sport & Entertainment). You will never be bored. And in any downtime you have, we fill it with working on new Innovation and R&D projects. We’ll keep you busy on interesting projects, you’ll have a significant influence on the company's technical platforms and work with cutting-edge technology to build applications that will be used by of thousands of customers.


Innovation is a huge area of interest for CEOs and CMOs. To help take advantage of this opportunity, M&C Saatchi Innovation are a new part of the M&C Saatchi Group in the UK created to deal with this requirement.

M&C Saatchi Innovation make materially significant inventions including comms, products, services and experiences to solve problems. We have six objectives:

  1. Revenue – make money and cover costs
  2. Reputation  - get PR coverage, win awards, win new clients
  3. Recruitment – provide new reasons to entice new staff
  4. Retention – provide new reasons for clients to stay
  5. Relationships – act as the hub for digital partners, suppliers and start-ups
  6. Responsibility – create work that gives back to the world above commercial benefit

To achieve these, M&C Saatchi Innovation have five areas of interest that our people are dedicated to:

Two of which are ‘revenue’ generating:

  1. New – working on new Innovation projects, independent of the advertising agency, as well as Innovation projects for the rest of the M&C Saatchi Group in the UK
  2. Technical – responsibility for the digital production team for M&C Saatchi Group in the UK
  3. Support – on pitches and existing client projects, primarily for M&C Saatchi Advertising UK, and LIDA (and secondarily the rest of the M&C Saatchi Group in the UK)
  4. Culture – raising the tech consciousness of the M&C Saatchi Group’s employees in the UK, and forming relationships and liaising with the major advertising and marketing technology and start-up suppliers to ensure we are always at the cutting edge of what is possible
  5. R&D – proactively coming up with ideas to sell to clients using new technology


  • Work with a large arsenal of open source and cutting-edge technologies (details below)
  • Plan and implement model data structures for scalability
  • Write secure code and architect applications
  • Participates in all phases of the development life cycle, focusing on coding, testing, and debugging
  • Works on the maintenance or enhancement of existing data structures
  • Researches, evaluates and analyses technical and design requirements
  • Troubleshoot and fix bugs/flaws within websites and other systems to ensure servers are running optimally.
  • Incorporate standards-based development processes for website and web/mobile applications.
  • Assist with strategy and planning for both Innovation and Creative Technology requirements
  •  Subject matter expert, providing: guidelines, best practices and training to other individuals Formulate concepts and ideas for additional products, tools, process and services as a key part of our Innovation team
  • Together with a dedicated team of highly skilled developers be responsible for maintaining and developing all parts of a complex service-oriented system

Skills and Qualifications


  • LAMP / LEMP stacks
  • Devops (provisioning, deployments, maintenance)
  • Frameworks (Laravel/Lumen, CakePHP)
  • CMS (Drupal 7+, Concrete)
  • API skills (decoupled CMS)


  • Dev-ops (optimisation, caching, scaling, backups, logs, monitoring)
  • Testable code
  • Schema-less databases
  • Search engines (Solr, Elasticsearch)
  • AWS knowledge


  • Dev-ops (continuous delivery)
  • Node.js
  • iOS, Android (native, cordova/phonegap, react native)
  • Serverless / Microservice architecture (lambda)
  • 8+ years of experience in Back End Web development
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or equivalent.
