Role description

We gain an in-depth understanding of our clients’ key business drivers and objectives, we help identify, simulate and test their business options, enabling a deeper and more informed view of the potential risks and returns involved.
 
Business Modelling is a specialist skill and you will learn the expertise, tools, methodologies and practical experience to help generate confidence in helping Clients make the most testing decisions.
 
We work directly with our clients and often alongside Deloitte teams from our Advisory Corporate Finance, Consulting. Audit and Tax practices. Our offerings address strategic, transactional and operational challenges in relation to business planning, transaction support, project appraisal, capital efficiency and model assurance, and include for example:
  • Insight Driven Forecasting: Interrogating large, complex operational datasets to generate meaningful insights from which we build robust financial forecasts that provide competitive advantage in supporting transactions, restructuring or other strategic agenda
  • Tactical MI: designing and rapidly implementing agile and cost effective MI solutions, to meet tactical business requirements arising from significant business change (e.g. M&A , carve out/divestment, reorganisation/ restructuring, complex programmes, regulatory change). Managing effective data collection from multiple stakeholder groups, and consolidation and validation processes across multiple sources, in situations where complex ERP implementation may prove non-cost effective or too slow to fit a quickly changing business environment.
  • Senior Executive Support Systems: facilitating the collation of critical management information for senior/ board level executives. Focusing on projecting and reporting key performance indicators for strategic business decisions with an emphasis on graphical/ user friendly analysis, using bespoke dashboards and innovative visualisation techniques.
  • Business Case Support: Building reliable and compelling business cases to win the confidence of decision makers and support planning and analysis throughout the project lifecycle.

Location

You will be based in the Deloitte Birmingham office, however travel will be required for client based projects. We work across various industries – our clients are varied, and vary in location.

Hours

Core hours are 37.5 hours per week. This is a permanent role. We do encourage careful consideration of agile ways of working, both formal and informal arrangements that allow for the best outcomes for our people and our clients. Responsibilities

As an Assistant Manager, you’ll have responsibility for:

  • Applying critical thinking skills to help interpret a client’s business problem, thinking flexibly, determining alternatives, and finding innovative solutions
  • Documenting the scope, specification and findings arising from decision support tools
  • Development of business models, following good practice techniques
  • Preparing presentation materials for senior stakeholders clearly articulating the implications of financial analysis; and
  • Critically appraising decision support tools to help assess whether they meet their objectives
 
We have particular focus on the following industry sectors:
  • Financial Services
  • Infrastructure and Capital Programmes
  • Consumer Business
  • Real Estate
  • Energy and Resources
  • Public Sector
 

 

Requirements

To qualify for the role you will:
  • Have an excellent academic track record including university degree and A-level (or equivalent) results
  • Have strong business diagnostic skills and the ability to apply a logical and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Be client focussed with the ability to establish  productive and effective working relationships
  • Have excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Have an effective approach to time management and the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Be a collaborative team player
  • Be a competent Excel user - other relevant technical analytical skills could also be an advantage e.g. Tableau, Power BI, VBA, Access, SQL etc.
Desirable experience includes:
  • Previous experience of working in a financial modelling team within a professional services firm or large corporate
  • Developing and/or reviewing models where a key output was integrated financial statements
  • Previous experience of working in one of our focus industry sectors
  • ACA Exam qualified (or equivalent) or in the final year of the ACA qualification (or able to demonstrate equivalent experience.) We do take into account those that have achieved first time passes for ACA exam qualifiers, but importantly would like to hear from individuals that have had alternative experiences through their Qualification (or equivalent) journeys.
