Role description

The team is structured across the UK, India, and five other countries. It is currently undergoing expansion and is looking for a number of developers globally with the appetite to learn and a flair for problem solving.

The technology is based around a set of large Microsoft SQL 2012 servers, which hold thousands of databases relating to different clients but with exactly the same data schema. There is a requirement for junior and senior ETL developers who will develop using SSIS to facilitate the extract, transform, and load of data into warehouse from a number of sources (including common financial systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics etc).

The ETL Developer will be an experienced developer with an ability to take ownership and drive projects to completion.

You will be based onsite in the Deloitte Cardiff office, home of our key nearshore delivery centre which contributes towards supporting our clients, our services and our business as a whole.

This is a permanent role. We do encourage careful consideration of agile ways of working, both formal and informal arrangements that allow for the best outcomes for our people and our clients. If this opportunity is interesting as a permanent role with a degree of flexibility please do discuss with us.

Typical tasks will include:

  • Understanding and specifying source data requirements from various ERP systems, working with the content development teams as part of their implementation projects
  • Providing input to the content development teams around data warehouse schema design
  • Implementing SSIS packages to perform data transforms, typically these will include using the following SSIS components such as Lookup, Merge, Sort, Conditional Split, Derived Columns, Aggregates & Pivots, and Custom .NET scripts
  • Creating T-SQL scripts to identify issues with source data (such as duplicate rows, invalid data types etc…)
  • Undertaking quality reviews of packages produced by other team members
  • Performance tuning new and existing packages
  • Investigating data load errors and issues through to resolution
  • Maintaining appropriate documentation and test evidence to support the ongoing availability and compliance of the overall platform
  • Working effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution

  • Proven ability to apply logical and analytical thinking skills to solve complex, technical problems
  • Strong written and spoken English communication, ability to clearly describe issues and propose solutions
  • Good level of skill working with MS SQL and building SQL scripts.
  • Experience building and debugging SSIS packages and using the BIDS suite
  • Knowledge of common data load challenges and issues
  • Experience transforming transactional data structures into OLAP data structures (including consideration of SSIS performance implications)
  • Understanding of different types of dimensional modelling typically used in data warehousing

  • Any experience working with transactional financial data or common ERP platforms would be beneficial but not required
