We’re hoping for sun on the 24th June when the re-arranged W-Tech will be taking place – it should be very different weather to that incredibly snowy day in February when London practically ground to a halt. 1 - W-Tech 2009 – Wednesday 24th June – Call For VolunteersWe are currently looking for volunteers to help us at W-Tech 2009 - the recruitment, career development and networking event for women in IT, which is being held in central London on Wednesday 24th June 2009. We're looking for people to help us in all aspects of the event, including looking after the registration desk, helping people with directions, and sitting in on workshops sessions to make sure there aren’t any problems. This is a great opportunity to be involved in the event and meet lots of fellow women in IT, as well as take home some really great advice on how to achieve as a woman in the IT profession.Unfortunately as it is a free event and our costs are very tight we can't pay anyone, but all volunteers will be provided with lunch and refreshments. 9 - BCS ITNow Magazine – Looking for Female Role ModelsBCS IT Now Magazine is the voice of the BCS (British Computer Society) and is read by both members and the wider IT community. 10 - National Search for National Muslim Women in Non-Traditional Roles to Inspire Young Women (12-18)Equal to the Occasion are running a national search to help find twelve Muslim women role models at post-graduate level / early career stage.They would like twelve national role models who will feature on a website and exhibition and go into schools in at least two regions, plus local women who will get involved with a school in the region nearest to them. There will be six events - in London, Manchester, Middlesborough, Cardiff, Dudley and Rotherham. They would like to showcase women with an unusual story to tell, who challenge assumptions and stereotypes about appropriate roles for Muslim women.
