Jeni Mundy
Thursday 9th February 2012
Jeni Mundy
Position:
Director of Technology
Company:
Vodafone
Location:
New Zealand
Jeni was born in Herfordshire UK a long time ago. She graduated from East Anglia University in the UK in 1987 with a BSC (Hons) Mathematics with Philosophy, and then in 1989-90, went on to complete the Whitbread Round The World Yacht Race on “Maiden”, (the first all female team). After a very successful race, she returned to Cardiff University in Wales and graduated in 1993 with a MSc in Electronic Engineering. As if once wasn’t enough… she again raced in the Whitbread on “Heineken” in 1993-94.
In 1994 she moved to New Zealand and got a real job(!) as an RF Engineer with Vodafone (was Bellsouth then). She then moved through to Team Leader, Manager & General Manager roles, all within the RF Planning/Network Development area and became a Director in April 2001, heading up the Engineering team. At the end of 2001, the Engineering and IT teams merged, and she now heads up the new Technology team. Indeed, she is one of the many empowered women who never get afraid of entering the world perceived as a place only for men. She is now a world renowned IT specialist. She practically knows everything about information technology and engineering as she is an expert when it comes to
laptop and notebook computers
. Without a doubt, she is a model for many women in the same industry. Her exemplary achievements serve as forms of empowerment for many women who aspire to the same around the globe.
Highlights in Jeni’s career to date include moving to New Zealand, turning left at Cape Horn, being followed around the world by a refrigerated container full of the sponsors product(!)and playing a key role in the build-up and growth of Vodafone and the successful integration of two teams from supposedly different worlds. Jeni’s interests are sailing, fitness (pilates), travel, food, wine, clothes, shoes…. the finer things in life!
