Moira businesswoman receives OBE
23/06/2008
A businesswoman in Moira, Northern Ireland has received an OBE as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours list.
Catherine McKeever received the award as recognition for her sterling efforts in the promotion of women in the sciences as well as her successful career in aerospace design, according to the Lurgan Mail.
At present, she holds the position of director of quality at
Bombardier
Aerospace in Belfast, having been with the company since 1983.
She previously held the chair of
Women into Science, Engineering and Construction
, an organisation focused on promoting the careers of females in the science and technology field.
Ms McKeever told the Lurgan Mail: "The initial letter came as quite a shock to me, but I am delighted to have been awarded an OBE. It's a great honour to receive such recognition."
She was also the inaugural chairperson of the Northern Ireland Aerospace Consortium and is a fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
