Bletchley Park 'in need of funding'

26/06/2008 Historic Bletchley Park is facing a difficult future with plans to re-develop much of the site.

In the past, Bletchley has been site of numerous films and historic dramas, however, more importantly it was the scene of one the most significant projects in World War II, the deciphering of Germany's Enigma code by Allied mathematicians and scientists.

Today, the estate relies on donations from the public to continue to be open as it is ineligible for funding from the National Lottery and was turned down by the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation.

It is also the location of the National Museum of Computing in commemoration of the earliest computers that were used by the Enigma scientists in the 1940s.

Without government intervention it has been claimed that within two to three years the park may face closure.
