Graduates enjoying higher salaries

04/07/2008 New figures have shown that youngsters graduating from university are earning an average salary of £20,000.

A new report from the Higher Education Statistics Agency found those who find full-time jobs after university are taking home between £15,000 and £23,000.

This is a slight rise on the amount of money earned by graduates in 2005-06.

The study also revealed that 96 per cent of those who graduated in the UK remained in the country to start full-time work.

Speaking to the Guardian newspaper, higher education minister Bill Rammell said: "Graduates can expect to earn considerably more over their careers than those without a degree, with the average graduate earning comfortably more than £100,000 [extra] over their lifetime, in today's valuation and net of tax, compared to someone who just has A-levels."

Many companies including Accenture and JPMorgan offer graduate schemes for computer science students who have recently picked up their degrees.
