Technology jobs boost for West Midlands

15/07/2008 A new project aimed at opening up jobs for men and women in technology has begun in the West Midlands.

The three-year plan from the West Midlands ICT Cluster aims to boost the technology sector in the region with a number of new initiatives.

It is hoped that the project will see more partnerships between small and large firms and encourage a greater focus on disruptive technologies.

As part of the plan, technology graduates will be urged to stay in the region and small technology firms will be given extra funding from local, national and EU sources.

Universities and other educational centres with computer departments in the region will be called upon to get involved.

"By working with these educational establishments, as well as organisations like the National Computing Centre (NCC), Business Link and UKTI, we will be able to keep our future bright stars here in the region", Mike Musson, ICT Cluster manager told the Birmingham Post.

"The West Midlands is regarded by the NCC as a forward thinking region, through initiatives such as Accredit UK, UK IT Association, iCentrum, RFID Centre and events such as the ICT Cluster Conference and regional awards."

Birmingham and its surrounding area have numerous opportunities for women in technology jobs with a number of large IT firms based in the region.
