New iPhone proves a massive hit
15/07/2008
Technology firm
Apple
has already sold more than one million iPhones worldwide despite it only launching this weekend.
The 3G phone has been snapped up 25 times faster than the previous mobile offering from Apple and many stores have been left with none in stock.
Chief executive Steve Jobs said that the smartphone experienced "a stunning opening weekend".
"It took 74 days to sell the first one million original iPhones, so the new iPhone 3G is clearly off to a great start around the world," he added.
Like the
BlackBerry
, the new iPhone is expected to prove particularly popular with working women who regularly use their mobiles to keep in touch with colleagues and clients.
As well as making calls, purchasers of the new machines have also been enjoying music, with ten million tunes having been downloaded from the iPhone App Store.
A recent survey from comScore found that the iPhone is used more than any other to browse news and information on the web.
