2010 'make or break year' for IT
06/11/2009
The IT sector could be on the way to recovery as 2010 becomes a make or break year for the industry, according to market analysts.
A report
published by technology research firm Gartner concluded that within the current economic climate many businesses are at "a major crossroads" and need to decide which direction is best for their firm's progression.
Ken McGee, vice-president of Gartner and a company fellow, urged organisations to act now and "question the efficacy of their IT business practices".
He added: "We are now within one of the rarest and most fleeting periods in business: nearing the bottom of a recession and before a return to growth. But [firms] need to act now, by the time business growth returns, they will be far too busy, and it will simply be too late to change."
The study recommended several courses of action and ideas to consider in this process, such as replacing current budget methods to improve their finances and finding ways to maximise an IT group's own innovation.
