Android malware threats 'on the rise'

03/02/2012 Android malware threats 'on the rise'There has been a large increase in malware on Android smartphones, one expert has warned, suggesting that people in IT support jobs will be required to tighten protection of work computers.

This is because an increasing number of employees are using their personal mobile devices for work purposes.

Kevin Wharram, an independent IT security consultant, stressed that from a security perspective, Apple's mobile operating system is better as it vets all applications before they go into the App Store, making it a safer, closed environment.

"Online threats are going to increase [in general]," the expert explained, "because of the rising amount of people using data, having access to mobile phones and being willing to share data.

"A lot of people are willing to share their data and they don't even realise what this data can be used for."

His comments come after Clive Taylor, founding director of Sesai Consulting Limited advised businesses to encrypt data and treat all personal devices as hostile.
