ARC: 'Definite increase in IT jobs'

05/03/2010 ARC: 'Definite increase in IT jobs'There has been a "definite increase" in IT jobs more than any other sector, according to the Association of Recruitment Consultants (ARC).

Adrian Marlowe, chairman of the trade association, said that as businesses regain strength in the economy, they are investing more in upgrading IT infrastructure, which requires the recruitment of more IT professionals and graduates.

"Also, the banks have come alive in the last six months or so," he added. "They have been recruiting generally to increase their workforces. It follows that if they are reconfiguring they are also considering what they should be doing in relation to their IT systems."

This comment comes as the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG released a Report on Jobs earlier this week, revealing that demand for workers in IT, particularly in permanent placements, was higher than ever.

However, Mr Marlowe remains cautious about a continuing trend as the election and a remaining lack of lending from banks may affect recruitment.
