ATM Wi-Fi plans outlined

23/06/2009 ATM Wi-Fi plans outlinedATM firm Cashbox has signed a five-year agreement with BT which will see Wi-Fi hotspots installed at the former's ATM sites UK-wide.

BT broadband customers and O2 iPhone users will be able to make use of the sites, which will initially be provided at ten of Cashbox's client locations, which number 2,500 in total across the country.

Tiger Tiger venues in London, Glasgow and Manchester will have the service, as well as a number of bar restaurants in the City of London.

"As a customer-focused business, we are continually looking for ways to extend our service offering and with exciting initiatives such as this we are providing our customers with additional opportunities to utilise the ATM machines," said Cashbox chief executive Ciaran Morton.

"May was an all-time record month for transaction levels as people are finding cash preferable to credit in the current economic climate."

Earlier this month, the SpiderLabs security team at Trustwave warned that a new form of malware was infecting cash machines using Windows XP and stealing users' data.
